Distance: 4 miles
Time: 31 minutes
Comments/Injury update: As you can see, my running was at an absolute minimum this week. I went out for a recovery-style run on Wednesday and encountered the upper quad soreness and psoas muscle pain that has been a constant for some time now.
As a result, I got up every morning this week, assessed the leg and decided not to run. I have been regularly taking anti-inflammatories and staying off the leg in the hope of letting the muscle recover sufficiently for the race itself.
With a week until raceday I am officially wigging out.
I should be at tip shape, razor sharp and ready to go. Instead I am an anxiety-filled mess wondering if I can salvage this thing.
My leg is simply not cooperating. The psoas muscle is better but still sore. It might be alright to run on come raceday, but the lliklihood of finishing with the time I want is remote.
Because it isn't just this one spot that's the problem. When I run with this soreness, my mechanics shift and it starts to affect my knees. And with 26.2 miles on the menu, that's not a positive prospect.
The rest of this week will be like the last. I will assess the leg each morning and, if it feels good, I'll try and put in one or two of the short runs I had planned. Otherwise my days will be filled with Ibuprofen, staying off my feet and visits to the masseuse.
And prayer. A lot of prayer.
