Distance: 4.02 miles
Time: 39:16
Pace: 9:46 min/mi
Comments: My legs felt good today. Moreso than they have in quite some time. After the warmup mile I really focused on cadence to see how well I could ride that good feeling. The result was a ridiculously strong effort.
I consciously was not pushing the pace hard on this. I wanted a good solid rhythm to get a measure of conditioning, not speed. So that meant staying consistent on the flat portions and keeping my cadence strong on the uphills.
Even with the effort, my heart rate barely touched the Zone 5 range. Suggesting there's a lot more in the tank.

Fitness Run
Distance: 4.04 miles
Time: 41:37
Pace: 10:19 min/mi
Comments: After weeks of good intentions, I finally got my ass up early to get the run in. The payoff was significantly reduced numbers of folks to deal with. Walkers stayed on the trail and the runners all knew the basic protocol.
It was another weird run in terms of effort. I tried to slow it down to the recovery run pace but kept finding myself going faster. And my heart rate was counfoundingly low. I guess it's a sign of good conditioning but I have yet to really test it.

Fitness Run
Distance: 5.02 miles
Time: 51:15
Pace: 10:13 min/mi
Comments: Running today was like stumbling upon the most disorganized 5K fun run ever. There was a ridiculous number of folks out there. It's pretty clear I'm going to have to start running a lot earlier to avoid this.
Didn't feel too great getting started and the run turned into a bit of a slog. Once again, my effort was half Zone 4 and half Zone 3 heart rate, no Zone 5 at all. I really need to think about upping the effort a bit on some of these if I want to see conditioning progress.

Fitness Run
Distance: 4.02 miles
Time: 38:36
Pace: 9:36 min/mi
Comments: The intent was to get up early and knock this out first thing. Instead I got out a bit later and was welcomed by what is likely to be the best conditions I can hope for in the summer: 76 degrees and 78 percent humidity.
Still, it didn't feel stifling like it will in two months when I'm out before daybreak.
I've had a ton of runs under Zone 5 heart rate effort so I pushed the cadence and the pace a little today. I wasn't going full on though. About a fifth of the run was in that range so I guess that's good.

Long Run
Distance: 8.02 miles
Time: 1:24:46
Pace: 10:34 min/mi
Comments: The plan was to put in a four miler yesterday but the daylong deluge put paid to that. So the backup plan was to add a bit to today's long run. I did a slightly longer circuit and got pretty dang close to eight miles (added the last fifth to make it even).
It was a little bit warm and a lot humid on this one. Things were fine up to the last two miles when the hills and the sun conspired against me. It never got brutal but I was pretty sweaty and whooped at the end.
Of course my heart rate never got in Zone 5 so who the hell knows at this point?
